Robert"Jinx" Chaffin and I served together at Ft Benning GA ,43rd eng blt combat hvy Co"D" We worked together at the motorpool where he was a mechanic and I was the parts guy.We were friends off post as well .He helped me thru some ruff days with a divorce and we maintained contact for sometime after I got out of the Army.His Grand mother lived not far from where I grew up in Pace Fl.I still have several Photo's my friend while we were in combat training war games in the late 70's,I look at them often and had wondered what has happen to some of those I served with. This Man was a good and solid person with a good heart. I'm sure he is missed daily.  

I knew Robert pretty well. I was his Academic Advisor at SPC-Southwest Campus. In the years that he was there I could not had the pleasure of meeting the nicest person. I still remember him and his son coming in to take architectural classes together. He continued coming and taking other classes in other depts. I'm sure all the friends he meet there will miss him very much just like I will. Please find comfort knowing that Robert was doing and enjoying what he wanted to do. My heartfelt condolences.

Robert was one of the hardest working loadmasters in the 433rd Airlift Wing and the heart and soul of the 433rd Airlift Control Element for over 14 years.  His spirit and “can do” attitude was legendary.   Robert was well respected throughout the ALCE and airlift community including the US ARMY and Marine Corps for his dedication and expertise in the tactical airlift of military cargo.  I was proud to have Robert as one of my senior NCOs flying combat and combat support missions after 9/11 in support of Enduring Freedom.   I could always depend on Master Sergeant Robert “Jinx” Chaffin to complete the mission in an exceptional manner.  I personally will miss his smile and his always upbeat, positive attitude.

Our country have lost a strong, silent American hero. I loved that man as if he was my own kid brother.. We flew many missions together and no one ever worked harder than him. Day in, night out no matter what Jinks just soldiered. The legacy he leaves  behind is one of integrity, focus, drive and the love he had for his wife and family. Rest in peace my good and faithful friend and thanks for everything.

I send my condolences to your family for your loss. I flew with Robert many times and always thought he was one of the hardest working Loadmasters in the 68th. I know Robert will be missed by all of us still here and I know Robert is in that big plane in the sky with our other departed friends,Rocky,Eddie and the crew of Bravo 12
