Robert (Bob) O. Stanfield passed away on Thursday, August 9, 2012, at the age of 82, after a long battle with cancer. He was born in San Antonio on July 4, 1930, to Rex and Callie Stanfield. Bob married Kennon on May 6, 1949, in Shreveport, La. He had a 27 year career in the U.S. Air Force. Bob then owned and operated a successful appliance repair service before retiring. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters (Shirley Lewis, Lillian Chmores, Fannie Alexander) and his wife Kennon of 53 years. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Debbie and Jim Brzezinski of Helotes, TX, son and daughter-in-law Rob and Candi Stanfield of Farmington, NM, son Rick Stanfield of Austin, TX, son Rusty Stanfield of San Antonio, multiple grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and longtime friend and special companion, Pat Gross. "Papa", as he was called by his grandchildren, will be greatly missed. Papa could (and did) fix everything, never threw anything away, and loved hosting the annual July 4th Potato Shootoff on his birthday.
A visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM on Tuesday, August 14, 2012, at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio. A Chapel service will be held at 9:30 AM on Wednesday, August 15, at Sunset Funeral Home, with interment to follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association, or charity of your choice.
