Richie graduated from Brackenridge High School in 1941. During World War 2 he served our nation in a Navy uniform, but as a Civil Servant in England, “Station X” and in Warrington, UK in logistics. After the war he continued working as an aircraft mechanic at Kelly AFB. Later, he ventured into his inherited passion for plants and studied landscape architecture at Trinity University and Texas A&M. Richard married Rosemary Symons in 1951 and was blessed with three children. He then started a small nursery on South Flores selling plants and delivering gravel and top soil to his customers. He will be most remembered for his 29 years of service as a San Antonio Fire Department Engineer, retiring in 1979. He built several greenhouses and filled them with exotic plants and was a certified Bexar County Master Gardener. In his younger years he was an active Freemason. He loved hunting and fishing and kept his family and fellow firefighters happy with his excellent cooking. He made the best barbeque, homemade raviolis, pizza and menudo.
Richard was very proud of his heritage, as he was the grandson of the 1st San Antonio Park Commissioner, Ray Lambert, and always attended the Kothmanns of Texas Reunions.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Kenny Lambert and Alvina (Alice) Elizabeth Kothmann, brother, John Ray (Mike) Lambert and wife, Rosemary Symons Gremillion. He is survived by brother, Jerrell W Lambert and Elizabeth; children Marilyn R Lambert, Richard L Lambert, Jr., and Vicky L Schafer and James; grandchildren Meagan King and Matt and Lauryn Bailey; cousin and best friend, Glenn Kothmann, nephews Jack Lambert and Carolyn, Darrell W Lambert & niece Beverly Joseph and Albert.
His favorite saying in the garden, “Isn’t that beautiful!”
