Richard “Dick” Heines Jr. of San Antonio, TX entered into rest on Saturday afternoon, July 16, 2022. He is preceded by his father Richard L. Heines, mother Francis Robinson Snyder and stepfather, James "Jimmy" Snyder, his sister, Mary Francis Wright and his loving wife, Shirley.
Richard was born on May 26, 1936 in Savannah, GA to Richard and Francis Heines. The family would move to Jacksonville, FL where he would graduate from Robert E. Lee High School. At the age of 18, he would meet the love of his life, Shirley Yon, whom he married soon after. The two would move to Winter Haven, FL where they would start a family. They had three sons, Richard, Mark and Gregory. In 1970 he moved his family to Lakeland, FL where he started his sales and management career in the tire industry with General Tire. During his 40 plus year career, Richard moved the family to Atlanta, GA, Houston, TX and San Antonio where he would retire from the industry at 77 years of age.
In his free time, he loved spending time with his adoring wife, Shirley who passed away in 2006 after 52 years of marriage. They loved the Texas coast and enjoyed weekend getaways together to Port Aransas and Rockport. He loved his grandchildren, saltwater fishing, boats, and was an avid reader. Richard was always dressed for any occasion until the very end. His sons kiddingly called him “Dapper Dick.”
Richard proudly served 2 years of active duty in the US Navy on the USS Massey, a navy destroyer. After active duty, he then spent 5 years in the Navy reserve.
Richard is survived by his brother, George Heines of Jacksonville, FL and his sons, Richard and wife Debi of San Antonio, TX, Mark and his wife Tambi of San Antonio, TX and LtCol Gregory Heines, USMC, (Ret.) and wife Jill of New Braunfels, TX, 7 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, among many other friends and family members whose lives he touched. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Services will be held Friday, July 22, 2022, at 9:30AM at Sunset Funeral Home and Memorial Park located at 1701 Austin Hwy. with internment to follow immediately after. Services will be livestreamed for those unable to attend in person.
