Richard Alan Davenport Sr entered into eternal rest on Tuesday August 28, 2018 at the North East Baptist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara P. Davenport; Father, William Wallace Davenport; Mother, Hester Marie Davenport; and Brother Ronald Wallace Davenport.
Richard is survived by his two sons, Richard Alan Davenport Jr. and Craig Wallace Davenport. Barbara’s children Jim Herblin and wife Danna; Amy Herblin Lancaster and Husband Darren; and Karen Herblin Busby and husband Mike; sister-in law Sharon Davenport-Ryberg; niece Dawn Davenport-Backhaus; niece Paige Davenport-Stakes and other relatives.
Richard joined the United States Navy after graduating high school. While serving his country, he received a permanent citation for the Navy and Marine Corps medal for heroic conduct during the Texas City disaster of 1947. Richard was stationed at the Medical Department of the US Navy Air Facility at Hitchcock, Texas at the time of the explosion.
After serving in the United States Navy, Richard joined Midcap Bearing Service in San Antonio, Texas where he spent the remainder of his career. He retired as Senior Vice President at the age of 65. He was an active member of the Trinity Baptist Church in San Antonio, Texas for many years.He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Richard’s will be cremated by the Neptune Society in San Antonio, Texas. There will be a private memorial at a later date.
