Rebecca Louise Becker, aged 77, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2015 at Northeast Methodist Hospital due to complications from kidney and heart disease. Rebecca was born January 2, 1938, in Chillicothe, Ohio, the daughter of Norman Mahaffey and Mary Ellen Dougherty. Rebecca was an avid reader and history enthusiast with a special interest in the United States Civil War. In addition, Rebecca was very fond of needlepoint and crocheting, which were the source of many gifts to family and friends. Although a resident of Texas for over 30 years, her love for Ohio State Buckeye football never diminished and she was rewarded with another national championship in 2015.
In 1959, Rebecca married Paul Louis Becker in San Antonio, TX, which was the starting point for a career in the United States Army for over 26 years. Military service brought them from Hawaii to Germany and countless destinations in between. After retirement, Rebecca and Paul returned to San Antonio where their journey had started to enjoy retirement in the warmth of south Texas.
Rebecca is survived by her beloved husband Paul; sons Stephen of Madison, AL and Eric of San Antonio, daughter Gretchen of San Antonio; sister Catherine of Chillicothe, OH; brother John of Columbus, OH; four grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
There will be a visitation and rosary from 6-8pm at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, TX. The funeral will be 10 am at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 4411 Moana Drive, San Antonio,TX followed by a graveside service at Fort Sam Houston cemetery.
