Raul Diaz

Mr. Raul O. Diaz, Sr., 77, passed away Jan. 15, 2014 at his residence embraced by his Loving Angel Pauline. He was born on Oct. 7, 1936 to Gonzalo and Josefina Diaz in San Antonio. At the age of 10 years he sold newspaper for the San Antonio Light Express News from downtown to Earl Abel’s to help provide for his family. At the age of 17 he joined the army Reserves giving service for 13 years and reaching the rank of Staff Sgt. He was employed for 37 years with Kelly Air Force Base as a Computer Programmer. Dad, was a parishioner of St. Paul’s Catholic Church. He sent his four children to St. Paul’s School where he coached baseball, softball (1975 City Champs), flag football (City Champs), He was also St. Paul’s Athletic Director from 1972-1976. He was a member and Vice President of Central Catholic Booster Club. He was a member of The Knights of Columbus Council #7265 and Fox Tech Class of “55”. Raul was preceded in death by his beloved wife Pauline; his parents; his brother, Richard Diaz and sisters Guadalupe Gonzalez and Esperanza Arratia.

He is survived by his loving and caring daughter Rachel and husband Baldemar Trevino, sons Raul Jr and wife Laura, Roger and Sylvia Diaz and Robert Diaz and girlfriend Jennifer Caballero. Grandchildren Vincent, Stephanie, Eric, Anthony, Reanna, Renee, Lauren, Nicholas, Rebecca, Gabrielle, and Alyson. Great-grandchildren Devon, Noah, Skylar, Reina Diaz and Mariah Trevino. Brothers Frank Diaz and wife Margaret, of Lima, Ohio, Gonzalo Diaz Jr. and sister Olivia Marin of San Antonio. Also numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers; Vincent Trevino, Eric Trevino, Balde Trevino, Anthony Diaz, Nick , Gilbert Marin Jr.

Visitation will be held Monday Jan. 20, 2014 at 5:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. in the Trevino Funeral Home Cupples Road in San Antonio, Texas. A funeral Service will be held on Tuesday Jan. 21, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Catholic Church on Sutton and St. Cloud. Interment will follow in the San Fernando Cemetery #2.
