Ramon (Ray) Garza, Jr. entered peaceful eternal rest on Sunday, January 21, 2024. Ray lived a fruitful life – full of laughter, enthusiasm, and generosity. He spread love and peace to all who knew and loved him.
Ray was born in Rio Grande City, Texas. He and his wife Rosie were married for 15 years.
He is preceded in death by his father, Ramon Garza, Sr., his mother, Isidra Adame, his siblings Rayna Sepulveda, Mariana Munguia, and Ranulfo Garza.
Ray is survived by this wife, Rosie; his son Daniel and his wife Patricia; his brothers, Jesus Garza and Rene Garza; his sisters, Elida Ramirez, Marie Hammonds, and Gloria Backeberg. He also leaves behind his granddaughter, Keeley Garza; and, beloved nieces, nephews, and other family members. He was also like a grandfather to Ariel, Jace, and Ella Amaro.
Ray was a Vietnam Army veteran who proudly served his country. He was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society at Prince of Peace Church. He also served as an usher at Cornerstone Church. He loved to stay active by weightlifting; doing pushups every day; playing golf every week with his pals; walking his dog Spencer around the neighborhood and talking and greeting his neighbors; and he always looked forward to making new friends. He enjoyed riding ATVs, and he was known to have loved a fine, dry red wine to share with his many friends and family.
Ray was a strong believer in family and devoted to the Lord who practiced his faith with love and passion. He was extremely generous to his family, friends, and those in need.
His family wishes to thank those who have provided comfort, food, cards, flowers, and love to Rosemary and all family members. In addition, the family expresses a heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the ICU doctors, nurses, and staff. They treated Ray with the utmost care, respect, and dignity.
The family will receive friends and family on Monday, February 5, from 6:00-8:00 p.m., who wish to pay their last respects at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, 6321 Bandera Road, San Antonio Texas. On Tuesday, February 6, at 12:00 p.m., a memorial service will be held at Sunset Northwest with interment to follow at Fort Sam Houston.
