Ramiro Peña born on September 3, 1925 in Zuehl, Texas to Manuel and Maria Peña went to be with the Lord on February 20, 2011 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born and raised in Zuehl, Texas. Ramiro was married to Zulema Valdez (also from Zuehl) for 65 years and they spent the first six years of their marriage working on the family farm and moved to San Antonio in 1952. Ramiro also worked at Randolph Air Force Base during World War II. He retired from San Antonio Independent School District after 30 years of service. After his retirement Ramiro and Zulema moved to Boerne, Texas to be closer to their son and his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Dario Peña; sisters, Santos De Los Santos and Elvira Espinoza. Survivors include his wife, Zulema Peña, son, Israel Peña and wife Tricia of Boerne, Texas; granddaughters, Kimberly Jill McClelland and husband Shawn Paul McClelland, Adrianne Renee Peña Carnes and husband Sam Burton Carnes, and Sally Elizabeth Peña; great-grandchildren, Sterling Paul McClelland, Brandon Paul McClelland, Eric Robert Carnes, and Kennedy Joy Peña Carnes; sisters, Esperanza “Pera” Valdez and Olivia Guerrero; brothers, Raul Peña and Carlos Peña; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be from 5-9:00 pm with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm on Thursday, February 24, 2011 at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Friday, February 25, 2011 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 2829 Ackermann Rd., San Antonio, Texas 78219. A reception will follow the mass at the church with interment at 2:00 pm at Sunset Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org.
