Peggy Marie Bolner Penshorn, a lifelong resident of San Antonio, TX, passed away peacefully at home in the same city that she so dearly loved. Known affectionately as Peggy, she was a beacon of love and kindness to all who knew her. Her gentle spirit and warm, welcoming smile were as constant as the Texas sun.
Born in San Antonio to Joe and Josephine (Grandjean) Bolner. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Clifton J. Bolner. Peggy's life was a vibrant tapestry woven with devotion to her family, her work, and her community. She shared an incredible journey of 69 years with her beloved husband, Harvey Penshorn, a testament to their enduring love and partnership. Together, they raised a family of four children: Richard (Beatriz), Rita King (Thomas), Joseph (Barbara), and Robert (Debra).
Peggy was a cherished matriarch whose legacy extends to her adoring grandchildren: Matthew King, Richard Penshorn (Stephen), Kate Penshorn Smith (Robert), David King, John Conor Penshorn, Andrew Penshorn, Ashley Penshorn, Jackson Penshorn, and Austin Penshorn, and her great-granddaughter Kylan Smith. Each of them along with many nieces, nephews and cousins were touched by her loving kindness, and they will carry forward her values and spirit.
Peggy's educational journey at St. Gerard Grammer School, Incarnate Word High School, and Incarnate Word College laid a strong foundation for her future. It was here that she developed a love for learning and a sense of community that would remain with her throughout her life. Peggy would continue to give back to education through her volunteerism with Incarnate Word High School Development and as a Past Chairperson of Incarnate Word College Development Board. Peggy kept education at the forefront of her life through on-going involvement in all the PTAs of her children’s schools, including Northwood and Serna Elementary, Garner Middle and MacArthur High along with the Northeast ISD School Council.
Peggy's professional life was marked by her unwavering work ethic and dedication as she worked side by side with her husband, Harvey, at Alamo Concrete Pavers. Her commitment to the family business was not just about making a living; it was about building something lasting together with the man she loved.
Her interests and hobbies were as warm and inviting as her personality. Peggy enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, creating cherished memories that they will hold dear for a lifetime. She was also an avid bridge player, a pastime that reflected her strategic mind and social nature. Peggy's love for the game was matched only by her love for the friendships she formed around the card table.
Peggy was also passionate about her commitment to San Antonio and the organizations that represented the special character of the city. This included spending over 50 years in The Conservation Society of San Antonio, where she was a Past President and Past Chairman of the Bunuelo Booth at A Night In Old San Antonio (NIOSA) along with many other roles where she built lifelong friendships and worked to save parts of San Antonio’s history for future generations to enjoy.
Peggy's character was the epitome of love, friendliness, and kindness. These words not only describe her but also the way she made others feel. She had the rare ability to light up a room with her presence and to lift the spirits of those around her with a simple act of kindness. Her friendly demeanor was not just a trait but a way of life that inspired everyone she met. She spread that spirit through many of the organizations she loved including St Monica’s Catholic Guild (Past President), Texas Society of Professional and Civil Engineers Auxiliary, St. Pius X Catholic Church (Founding Member), Pythia Chapter Delphian Society (Charter Member), and the Assistance League.
The impact Peggy had on her family, friends, and community will be felt for generations to come. She was a woman of grace and dignity, always putting others before herself. Her love for her family was immeasurable, and her guidance and wisdom were the cornerstones upon which her family will continue to build their lives.
As we say goodbye to Peggy Bolner Penshorn, we also celebrate the extraordinary life she lived. Her journey was one of joy, love, and unwavering commitment to the people and values she held dear.
