Paul Franklin Root,94, passed away on Sunday, March 23, 2014 in Kingwood, Texas. Born June 29, 1919 in Weston, Colorado, to Minnie and Francis Root, grew up in Denver, CO. and he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps at Fort Logan, CO. A veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, he served in the U.S. Army for twenty years and retired as a Chief Warrant Officer, W-3, at Fort Ord, California. In 1958 he returned to San Antonio with his family and was employed for twenty years with the City Public Service as the Building Manager for the Villita Assembly Hall.
Paul Franklin was a dedicated husband to Lucille Rose, his wife of 43 years, who preceded him in death, and also his son, Robert Thomas Root, Sr. Survivors include sons, Paul Richard Root; James L. Root (Sharon); Michael G. Root (Caren) and daughter-in-law Juanita Root. Grandchildren include Robert Thomas Root, Jr,; Russell P. Root (Jennifer); Teresa Lucille (Root) Swanson (Mike); and Jennifer Anne Root; Great-grandchildren Patrick Ryan Root; Adriana and John Michael Swanson. Survivors include a sister-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel, with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. On Friday, March 28, 2014, 1:30 p.m. Mass will be celebrated at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 10703 Wurzbach Rd. Interment will follow at San Fernando Catholic Cemetery #2.
The family suggest memorial contributions be made to Alzheimer’s Association, The American Diabetes Association or Charity of Choice.
