

Growing up in St. Louis, Paul attended Western Military Academy and then went to Washington University where he played on the football team and was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. After graduation from college with a business degree in 1942, he joined the Army and became a First Lieutenant.
In 1945 he married Betty Jane Cassens and later in the year was sent to Okinawa to serve his country overseas. Upon his return, he worked with his father and brother in the Paul E. Kummer Realty Company in Baden, MO and eventually served as its President. He became an independent insurance agent and served the St. Louis area for 40 years in that capacity.
He and his wife were very active in Unity Lutheran Church in St. Louis and Paul served in various offices of the church including Treasurer and President. He loved sports and coached and sponsored his children's sports teams throughout their childhood.
Paul and his wife retired in Lago Vista, TX in 1989 and lived there until 2007 when they moved to San Antonio.
Paul is survived by his loving wife of over 65 years, Betty; his brother, Edgar Kummer and his sister, Doris Witte; his daughter, Cathy Hoffman and husband Mark of Huntsville, AL; his daughter, Karen Franklin of Atlanta, GA; his son, Paul W. Kummer and wife Paula of San Antonio, TX; his grandchildren, Michael Hoffman, Christopher Hoffman, Andrew Franklin, Peter Franklin, Brett Kummer and wife Amy, Kyle Kummer and wife Shea, and Trent Kummer; his great-grandchildren, Preston Kummer and Holt Kummer.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, November 18, 2010 at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
