Heaven Will Be Redecorated In Mauve Patricia (Pat) Bruner Cubeta, a retired Children’s Protective Services Trainer and Child Abuse investigator for the states of Texas and Florida died unexpectedly on October 8, 2017 at the age of 78 in her own home, surrounded by her family and her beloved dogs. Pat is survived by her sister; Judith Bruner Hudgens; her brother, Robert Bruner; her children Patricia Cubeta Zibluk, Paul John Cubeta and Pamela Cubeta Rogers; her sons-in law, Kevin Zibluk and Scott Rogers; her grandchildren, Christopher Rogers and John Cubeta Zibluk; her granddaughter-in-law Jean Rogers (nee Medin), her great-grandson Scott Bennett Rogers and her Airedales Daisy Mae, Abner, and Beulah. Pat was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on August 21, 1939 to Theodore W. Bruner and Jane Evens Bruner. She graduated from Barry University in 1984 with a degree in Social Work and made the protection of abused and neglected children her life’s work. Her dedication was evidenced by her Christmas-time efforts to secure gifts and assistance for the numerous children she had successfully placed with families. Many kept in touch with her after her retirement. As a post retirement cause, Pat transferred her devotion to the protection of Airedale Terriers. She was an active foster home and placement investigator for Texas Airedale Rescue Team (TART). Pat was noted for her creativity, her wonderful baking, beautiful landscaping and her over-the-top holiday decorations that lit up the entire block. Her special occasion quiches were as legendary as her morning muffins. Neighborhood children knew they could count on her to buy whatever their school had them selling. She was a talented interior decorator, gifted seamstress and had recently taken up home-canning as a hobby. She was a MENSA member, knowledgeable investor, avid reader and always completed the crossword puzzles in pen. She had an effervescent smile, a ready laugh and adored a good practical joke. She had an indefatigable spirit and a real zest for life. She rode roller-coasters, cheered at rock concerts, and recently realized her lifelong dream of riding the Zamboni at a hockey game.. She was intensely patriotic and supportive of the military and loved an impassioned political debate almost as much as she loved to share the accomplishments and photos of her children, grandchildren and great-grandson. Her color-coordinated outfits and accessories with her signature matching Fedora hats made her instantly recognizable wherever she went. Her passing will leave an incredible void in the lives of her friends, family, and all who knew her. Above all, Pat was a woman with definite opinions about everything, including her own funeral arrangements. At her request, a memorial mass is scheduled one month and one day after her passing at 11:00 a.m. on November 9 at the Assumption Chapel at St. Mary’s University of San Antonio, One Camino Santa Maria, San Antonio, TX 78228. A reception and celebration of her life will immediately follow. At Pat’s request, her friends, family and former co-workers invited and are requested to wear cheerful attire, bring a fond memory to share and, instead of flowers, are requested to donate to Texas Airedale Rescue Team in her name either by PayPal to texasairedalerescue.com or by sending a check to T.A.R.T. c/o Becky Preston, 6444 Suncrest Ct, North Richmond Hills, TX 76180. Be sure to mention in the notes that the donation is in memory of Pat Cubeta.
