Pamela Kay Evans Berger was born at the Headley Clinic in Odessa, TX on February 21, 1946 & passed away on December 3, 2014 while on a brief hospital stay in San Antonio, TX. She was always a hard worker, a survivor and had the most outstanding laugh. She was funny & loved to make people laugh.
Growing up in Odessa, she could throw a football or baseball just as hard as the boys. She could out arm wrestle her own children until they were close to adulthood. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church, was a member of the Permian High School choir & while attending Odessa College was a member of the Las Senioritas drill team.
On July 21, 1970 she wed Charles Berry Berger. In February of 1971 they moved to McCamey, TX where she was an active part of the small town community they called home for 29 years. She loved being around family & children. Although she & Berry had their own automotive garage for most of that time, she enjoyed being a substitute teacher, working in the church nursery & running the Ed Kinney Teen Center for many years.
Her love for her own kids & grandkids would always emmulate through her love of baking. When anyone in her family had a birthday she would make their choice for supper & a cake from scratch, sometimes even extravagantly decorated. Holiday baking was always a huge family tradition.
In July 2000, Pam & Berry moved to Bandera, TX where she was employed as a dispatcher by the Bandera County Sheriff Dept. She was working almost non-stop during the flood of 2002 when she took a call from a deputy who informed her that her own house had just washed away. She took a few minutes to gather her thoughts & went right back to answering distress calls from others in their time of crisis. She also worked at the Bandera Nursing Home from 2006-2008 when having a double by-pass heart surgery rendered her unable to work at age 62.
She loved her kids, grandkids & family time the most. If she knew someone having a baby she'd sew them a baby blanket. Her love of family get togethers must have been complete when recently, in September, she got to have a reunion with both of her brothers, their wives, most of her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, all 4 of her children, their spouses & grandchildren. Her heart was strong, happy & full.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Charles Berry Berger; children, Paul Lee of Iraan, TX, Brandy Clark & husband Jason of Bandera, TX, Chris Berger & wife Patsy of McCamey, TX, Cary Berger of Bandera, TX; grandchildren, Margarita Berger, Jake Clark, Chad Clark; brothers, John Michael Evans & wife Benny of San Diego, CA & Mark Alan Evans & wife Jan of Lubbock, TX.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that charitable donations be made to her charity of choice: Cal Farley's Boys Ranch in Amarillo, TX.
