Oscar Reyes Sr., of San Antonio, Texas, passed away Tuesday October 22, 2019, at the age of 80. He was born in San Antonio on December 2, 1938. He is preceded in death by his parents: Eulalio Reyes and Angelita Trejo; brother: Robert Reyes; sister: Hope Zuniga; and grandson: Oscar Reyes III. He was a loving and supportive father and husband, as well as uncle, brother, grandpa, and great grandpa. He was a friend to all who knew him and did not hesitate to help anyone in their time of need. He retired from the Air Force at the rank of Technical Sergeant after 20 years of service and was a proud Vietnam Veteran. After the Air Force, he attended Southwest Texas State University and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in 1981. In the late 1980's, he started his career as a teacher at Sam Houston High School, before moving to Thomas Jefferson HS, and finally retiring from Edison HS in 2003. During his time as a teacher he also served as a reserve deputy for the Bexar County Sheriff’s Department for over 20 years before finally hanging up his uniform in 2015. After retirement, he continued to be very active in his community as a coach at South San HS and a substitute teacher. Through it all he was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Leonard’s Catholic Church. He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years: Esperanza Reyes; sons Oscar Reyes Jr. (Rachel), and Michael Reyes (Raquel); daughters: Deborah Arredondo (Robert), and Diana Campos: stepsons: Richard Rodriguez (Blanca), and Oscar Rodriguez (Dolores). He had 19 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Monday, November 4, 2019, at Trevino Funeral Home, 2525 Palo Alto Road, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with the Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. On Tuesday, November 5, 2019, a procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. for a 10:00 a.m. Mass to be held at St. Leonard's Catholic Church, 8510 S. Zarzamora St. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at approximately 11:30 a.m. at Shelter 3.
