Olivia V. Rodriguez, age 89, went to be with Our Lord, surrounded by her family on Sunday, October 22, 2017. She was born on February 11, 1928 in San Antonio, Texas to Jose and Reynalda Villarreal. Oliva was one of five children and her love to nourish and care for others led her to follow her dream of nursing. She graduated as a Licensed Vocational Nurse from the first school of nursing in San Antonio. She started her career at Nix Hospital in San Antonio where she was a lead nurse for new born unit of the hospital. Olivia was a dedicated nurse for 38 years in both public and private care. Olivia was a beloved mother to her 5 children. Her first three children were from her first marriage, but later divorced and married who would be the love of her life, husband and father to two more children. She married Miguel Rodriguez Jr on May 4, 1963 in San Antonio. Olivia left San Antonio to be at her husband’s side in the U.S. Marine Corp as they together raised their loved 5 children. Oliva and Miguel were married 49 years until Miguel’s passing in 2012. Olivia and Miguel raised all their children through the Catholic Church and instilled the belief of serving God and praising Our Heavenly Father each and every day. Olivia believed in family and keeping those ties always open. She showered her love by always taking time to spend with her siblings and her many nieces and nephews. Olivia loved and cared for her own mother, Reynalda until her passing in 1980.
Left to honor and remember Olivia are her 5 children, Raymond Navarro, Yvonne Navarro, Debra Matull (Eddie), Joan Ferguson (Gene), and Michael Rodriguez (Valerie Uriegas) and extended daughter, Kimberly Rodriguez. Olivia’s special love to be remembered by her grandchildren, Olivia Navarro, Barbara Haag (Jonathan), Angela Wright (Kim), Amy Salazar, Jonathan Burson, (Lourdes), Michael Diaz, Erica Young (Aaron), Patrick Navarro, Andrea Fellows (Jason), Michelle Diaz (Logan Wiltz), Monica Calvo, (Mauricio), Jessica Yanushka (Ryan Bonilla), Justin Yanushka, Reina Cox (Tommy), Michael A. Rodriguez Jr; her 13 great grandchildren with 3 expected great grandchildren in the next few months.
Olivia is preceded in heaven with our Father and her beloved husband, Miguel Rodriguez, Jr. , her parents, Jose and Reynalda Villarreal and her five siblings, Hector Villarreal, Eloise Pena, Rudolfo Villarreal, Diamentina Sanchez and beloved grandson, Anthony Michael Rodriguez, her niece, Wilda Rivas and nephew, Roy Pena and Fernando Salazar.
Olivia will be remembered as a kind, strong, spiritual and loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and aunt. Funeral services are as follows:
Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at Sunset North, 910 N. Loop 1604 78232, Public Visitation from 5pm, Rosary at 7pm.
Thursday, November 2, 2017 at Sunset North 910 N. Loop 1604, 78232 at 11:30 for 12pm Mass at St Pius X Catholic Church, 3907 Harry Wurzbach and procession after to Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, 78209 for the gravesite service.
The Family of Olivia V. Rodriguez would like to extend our gratitude to the staff at Kindred Hospital, The Laurels Assisted Living, and especially to Lynn Snider, and Anita Trevethan for their attentiveness and loving care to our mother these past 5 years.
If you would like to make a memorial in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Olivia’s name to San Juan De Los Lagos Catholic Church-Charities in San Antonio, Texas, Alzheimer’s Research Foundation, or St Jude’s Children Research Hospital.
