Olivia V. Canales went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 4th in San Antonio, Texas. She was born to Antonio and Maria de Jesus de Valadez on March 17, 1924 in San Antonio. Olivia served her country as a welder at Kelly Air Force Base during WWII. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt, and friend who will be dearly missed.
Olivia was preceded in death by her parents, Antonio and Maria; her husband, Ralph M. Canales; her sisters, Ernestina Garcia and Alicia Fleming; and her brother, Roberto Valadez. She is survived by her children, Yolanda Dowdy (Marc), Ralph Canales, Jr., Mark A. Canales (Kathy), Anna DeRocher (George), Melissa L. Modesett (Phil), Mario R. Canales (Felicia), Patrick M. Canales (Patti); 17 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Thursday, March 22nd from 6-7:00 pm at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel; 1701 Austin Hwy; San Antonio, TX 78218. The Funeral Service will follow at 7:00 pm on March 22nd. The Interment will be at 10:00 am on Friday, March 23rd at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Sunset Funeral Home Reception Room.
