(1949 – 2018)
Olivia Valdez Adendorff was born in San Antonio, Texas on October 23, 1949 and was called home to be with the Lord, on February 15, 2018, in Manassas, VA at the age of 68.
Born to Isabel and Luis Valdez, Olivia was the third oldest of eight siblings. Olivia graduated from Sidney Lanier High School in 1968 and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from the University of Texas, Austin in 1974 and a Master of Science Degree in Education from Boston University, Kapaun Education Center, Germany in 1990. Olivia worked for the U.S. Government for 15 years in Germany and Korea as a Recreational Director for our overseas troops. There, she received a Commander Award for civilian service in May of 1993 and published the 21st TAACOM Health & Fitness Guidebook – program implementation guide. She also loved to teach English as a Second Language (ESL) for 10 years in Korea and in Manteca, CA. As an ESL instructor, Olivia also co-authored a textbook titled Welcome to Computers for ESL Students. Olivia also spoke three foreign languages: Spanish, French, and German.
Olivia’s travels took her to over 60 countries. She loved visiting new places and learning about their cultures and seeing beauty of their lands.
Olivia is survived by her mother, Isabel D. Valdez; husband, Adriaan Adendorff; daughter, Lauren Ashley Adendorff; step-daughter Elizabeth Grubbs (Victor Sharp); siblings, Yolanda Zepeda, Luis Valdez, David D. Valdez (JoAnn), Leonard D. Valdez, Richard D. Valdez, and Gilbert D. Valdez She is also survived by two uncles, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 22, 2018, at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, with a Memorial Service at 7:00 p.m. A small reception will immediately follow the Memorial Service. A Funeral Service will be Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at 9 a.m. at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway with Interment to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 9:45 a.m. (Please arrive before 9 a.m. to be included in the burial procession).
