Ofelia Martinez Narvaez was born in St. Paul, TX. She and her husband, Nieves Narvaez Sr. lived for many years in Sinton, TX before moving to San Antonio to be closer to their grown children until his death in 2000. Ofelia was an independent spirit and lionhearted feminist. She believed that women and ethnic minorities could (and should) rise up by working hard and fearlessly facing adversity. This belief motivated her children to strive for success in their lives - a tradition upheld by her grandchildren who stand today as a testament to her legacy.
Her eldest son, Nieves Jr. (wife, Paula), is a CPA with over 30 years of experience. His daughter, Alejandra (husband, Peter) holds her MS in Biology and entered the field of Biotechnology after graduation. She now is the Lab Manager of The Kinkaid School in Houston, TX.
Son Robert (wife, Cindi), is a physician and philanthropist in the San Antonio area. His children, Robert II, Christopher, and Marisa have all excelled in the fields of business, management, and nursing, respectively. They are living examples of taking the detours that bring you to your life's true passion. Christopher is also the father of Ofelia’s two great-grandchildren, Mia and Jackson.
Daughter Janie (husband, John) is a Registered Nurse who devotes her time to military patients. Her son, John Michael is currently studying Information Technology and has taken up learning the Russian language as a hobby.
Daughter Yolanda (husband, Rick) was also a Registered Nurse who cared for the mentally ill of San Antonio with grace and respect until her passing in 2019. Her daughter, Ellie is currently enrolled at Texas A&M San Antonio on a fast track to medical school. She is also a Certified ASL Interpreter who aids the deaf and hard of hearing of San Antonio.
Her children and grandchildren continue to live by the example set by Ofelia who, as a faithful Catholic, lived her life as a disciple of Christ. She taught her family to live with grace and humility; as a teacher’s assistant, she cared for mentally challenged children in South Texas; she was a seamstress who created beautiful quilts for family and friends; and she lived each day with the hope of entering God’s Kingdom. After receiving her Last Rites, Ofelia passed away comfortably at home, in the company of her family, on the 12th of October -- reuniting with her loving husband, beloved daughter, and cherished siblings.
