I first met Norman and his lovely wife Sissy, and their son Skip, in 2006 during my first ever trip to Texas to visit my oldest, dearest friend Barbara, who lives in Austin.  She was married to Sissy's nephew , Harry McKnight, until his sudden early death left Barbara with two young children to look after.  Norman and Sissy stepped into the breach and continued to provide loving care, support and practical help, and they all became a very close knit family.
We went to visit them in their home in San Antonio, and they could not have been more friendly and welcoming, and fun to be with.  A really delightful couple who I kept in touch with over the years until my next visit, by which time, sadly, Sissy had passed away.  But Norman stayed in touch, writing me lovely letters occasionally, letting me know how he was getting on.  My 2nd visit, in 2013 was to celebrate Barbara's 70th birthday and it was at her big party in Austin that I met up with Norman and his family again.  He was in a wheelchair then, but otherwise seemed as lively minded, friendly, and humorous as before.  And still reading lots of books!  We continued to stay in touch, mainly at Christmas, though not last year when I ran out of time to write cards.  I hope he didn't think I'd forgotten him,  because I will always remember him, and Sissy, in the kindest, fondest way.  Please extend my sincere condolences to his family for whom his passing will be a great loss.  From Caroline with love.

Norma, I'm Jill Nelson and we hung out together when I first moved to San Antonio in 1982.  I saw your name and want to wish you my warmest thoughts and heartfelt prayers at the loss of your father.  God bless.

Norma and Skip, my heart breaks for you. Your dad was an amazing man.  I have such fond memories of spending time with your family camping at the beach, Concan, cookouts, and just hanging out.  I loved him like my own father.   He always had a smile and a bear hug when you walked in the door. 
 I will always cherish our childhood together.  He will be greatly missed.
