Nancy Clouser Gillard was born December 10, 1939, in Los Angeles, California. She graduated from Santa Monica High School. Nancy and her best friend, Nyla, were transferred by their employer, System Development Corporation, to Omaha, Nebraska, to Strategic Air Command Headquarters at Offutt Air Force Base where Nancy met Air Force Captain Bob Clouser.
Theirs was a long and loving marriage of over 40 years. Bob’s promotion to Colonel and assignments took them to Louisiana, England, Washington D.C. (twice), San Bernardino, CA, and two separate tours in San Antonio.
When Bob was sent to Viet Nam in 1971, Nancy moved to Bangkok, Thailand, where she began her career in government civil service. Upon Bob’s retirement she continued working full time in civil service pursuing her education eventually earning a PhD in organizational management and human relations from Texas State University in San Marcos. She rose in the ranks of government service holding positions in Washington DC, Athens, Greece, Ramstein, Germany and San Antonio. At the time of her retirement, Nancy was Chief of Intern Recruiting at Air Force Personnel Center,Randolph AFB. She leaves an important legacy.
When Bob Clouser passed away in 2002, Nancy’s work and many friends sustained her during this sad time. It was through friends that she met John Gillard, long time San Antonio resident and business owner.
Nancy and John were married on November 8, 2003. The marriage to John Gillard gave her the one thing she never had- a large and loving family with children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren
Nancy Clouser Gillard passed away June 16th from the complications of surgery followed by a stroke. Her passing was gentle and peaceful which this smart, vivacious, fun loving, and beautiful woman so rightly deserved.
She is survived by her loving husband, John Gillard, and the entire Gillard family, daughters Traci Wimer (Tad) of Oklahoma City, Stephanie Long (Dennis) of Warrensburg, MO, son John Gillard (Marijan) San Antonio, grandchildren Natalie Wimer, Brooke Wimer Burrough (Blake), Katie Long, Harrison Wimer (Leah), Jake Gillard, John Long, Zack Gillard and three Burrough great grandchildren.
She is also survived by her lifelong friend of 71 years, Nyla Arslanian (spouse Oscar) of Los Angeles, half-brother Danny Price, step-brother Tom Ewing (Irina), Oceanside, CA.
Funeral service will be held June 23rd at 2:00 pm. St. Thomas Episcopal Church, North Loop 1604 East, San Antonio, TX 78232. Raise a glass in her memory and kindly make a donation to a charity of your choice in Nancy’s name.
