6-1-1934 - 4-7-2017
Our beloved mother and grandmother Nancy Sue (Sigler) Kiphart Carter unexpectedly left this earthly plane in San Antonio, Texas, on 4-7-17.
Born To Dan Sigler and Merl Breese Sigler on June 1, 1934 and raised in Elwood, Indiana, she graduated from Wendell Willkie in 1952. A lifelong lover of classical music, she studied piano under Catherine Bell Rutledge and went on to study classical organ at Ball State University and was church organist to Elwood United Methodist church, the Presbyterian church, and then to various churches in Lima, Ohio, upon relocating there with her first husband of 54 years, James O. Kiphart. She was also very involved with the youth ministry in the Elwood United Methodist Church. She earned a nursing degree from Valencia College in Orlando, Florida, and then relocated to Ohio, and then Virginia Beach, Virginia, to be close to her only grandchild. She then moved to San Antonio and married her second husband, Elwood native Richard Dee Carter, who predeceased her in 2015.
Our mother/grandmother was a lifelong student of the mysteries of human existence and had a questing and open mind regarding the meaning of life. Education and learning were of paramount importance to her, and she taught us how to look beyond the superficial, and above all, empathize with others and try to understand other points of view. She had a wicked, if quiet, sense of humor and a love of animals that she thankfully passed on to us. She had a genuine respect for knowledge, an authentic soul, and an artist’s eye. We will miss her beyond imagining, and the void her absence leaves in all our lives will never be filled.
She is survived by her daughters Christine Kiphart Fisher of Orlando, FL and Cynthia Kiphart Hashemi of Virginia Beach, VA, brother David B. Sigler of Leesburg, FL, granddaughter Miranda Hashemi, and son-in-law Mark Hashemi. Her pre-arrangements are being honored; in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the cat rescue organization, Wayward Whiskers at www.wayward-whiskers-cat-rescue.org.
Arrangements under the direction of NEPTUNE SOCIETY - San Antonio, San Antonio, TX.
