Miriam Rendon McClendon was born full of sparkle on New Year’s Day of 1945...she’s been the life of the party ever since! Miriam was the oldest daughter of Luis Alonso Rendon and Maria Eva Chavez de Rendon in Santa Ana, El Salvador. At the age of 17, Miriam traveled to Texas to attend Howard Payne University. With a spirit of service, she started her career as a Social Worker for the Texas Youth Council and eventually launched her practice helping those in need as a Christian Counselor. On December 19th, 1981, Miriam married Virgil McClendon and together, they welcomed their son - David Christopher McClendon. As David grew, Miriam and Virgil opened their home and hearts to David’s friends: Mark, Josh, Billy, George, Tom, and Jeff, all who became David’s brothers. Miriam was a diligent worker and received many commendations during her career, but her greatest pride and joy was her role as mother, to her boys. Miriam loved her family dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother Luis Alonso Rendon, Jr. She is survived by her husband Virgil McClendon, son David McClendon, daughter-in-love Phoebe Douglass; sisters Flora Rendon Andrade, Nellie Magana, and Magda Rabalais; sister-in-laws. Dianne Rendon; forever-faithful friends Maritza Santos and Ofelia Portillo; ten nieces, nephews, and their spouses; many grand-nephews and grand-nieces whom she deeply loved…they adored her like a grandmother and affectionately called her “Mimi”. While Miriam was born into the Rendon family, she also chose and pledged her love to her Houston family: Dr. Javier Ruiz-Nazario, Juan Javier Ruiz, and Annia Ruiz. She now joins her best-friend-sister, Eileen Hernandez-Ruiz, who went to Heaven just 18-months ago. Miriam was a no-nonsense, tell-it-like-it-is woman. Her warrior spirit and contagious laughter will always be remembered by our family. We are thankful for your support and are confident in the promise that she is now healthy, whole, and dancing with Jesus.
