She passed peacefully on May 21, 2021 in San Antonio, Texas. She was 70 years young. Myria’s impact, however, will live on in miles de abrazos, miles de risas, y un espíritu que no conoce la muerte.
Born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, Myria moved to the United States when she was 30. Though it was easy for her to make friends wherever she went, a part of her heart stayed behind on the island of Puerto Rico. She spoke with a thick, almost lyrical accent and would dance between languages when talking with her children and grandchildren.
Intelligent and sharp witted, Myria was the consummate hostess and conversationalist. She loved cooking arroz con pollo; spending time with family and friends; and giving warm, frequent, and sometimes unexpected hugs. She loved deeply, and she laughed often.
In life, Myria was fearless. In death, her grit and determination have passed to those who called her Mom, Abuela, Tia Myria, Igualita and friend.
She is survived by three children: Myriamalie, Pablo (and wife Karen), and Alejandra; four, very loved, grandchildren: Isabella, Leonardo, Pablito, and Christian; and cherished extended family and friends. Her adventurous spirit and resilient heart live on in those whose lives she touched.
Her family is comforted to know that she is now reunited with those that have gone before her including her parents, Braulio and Gloria, and her siblings, Ivette and Braulio Jr.
In lieu of flowers, Myria’s family asks that you consider making a donation to SAMM Ministries (https://www.samm.org) or the National Alliance on Mental Illness ( www.nami.org ).
Myria’s life will be remembered in a private family ceremony, and her ashes will be returned home to Puerto Rico.
We love you and will miss you.
