Herminia “Minnie” Garza Macias was born April 25th 1939 to Raymundo and Celestina Garza in San Antonio, TX. Reared in the heart of San Antonio, she attended Brackenridge High School, and went on to marry Liborio Macias after meeting on a blind date in 1957. They raised 4 children together in San Antonio, all graduating from MacArthur HS. Minnie was the neighborhood mom always opening her home to the neighborhood kids greeting them with a hot tortilla straight from the griddle, and a welcoming smile. She blessed the 100s of children that graced her always tidy and immaculately kept home, and then in her later years the thousands of children that she cared for during her 17 years as a member of the AHUMC Mother’s Day Out team. If one thing is clear, Minnie loved caring for children, which is certainly attested to by her love for her 4 children, 4 in-law children, 10 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. She loved well! She will be missed by many, but never forgotten, because the lives she touched over her 80+ years were forever changed. She personified the principle that it’s not education or wealth that truly defines a person’s impact, but it’s the never ending love you give to others that truly lasts the test of time. We love you, Mom!
Minnie is survived by 5 siblings, Mary Lopez, Connie Gonzales, Jesse Garza, Bobby Garza, Sylvia Garza; children Rodney Macias and wife Sarah, Nathan Macias and wife Susan, Patricia Macias-Whitworth, and husband Fred, Norman Macias and wife Tara; grandchildren Zachary Macias and wife Shelby, Caleb Macias and wife Ginna, Mary Katherine Macias, Luke Macias and wife Misha, Jane Macias, Aaron Macias and wife Gigi, Grace Ballmann and husband Nathan, Leah Macias, Hannah Macias, and Abigail Macias; great-grandchildren Olivia, Leila, Isabella, Emiliana, Noble, Jaxen, and Nathan.
