Mildred lived through the Great Depression and waited for loved ones to come back home from World War II, The Korean War, Vietnam, and Desert Storm; as a result, she was tough as nails. She was a hard worker, resilient, independent and creative. Her openminded compassion will be missed.
She was a lady with one wicked sense of humor and a rebellious streak that many, especially her beloved grandkids and great grandkids identified with. All you had to watch for was that twinkle in her eye and you just knew, “Millie” was up to something!
She loved her family, which pretty much included everyone she met. if you were in her circle, she welcomed you in. Surrounded by musicians and artists, this woman was unflappable and took everything in stride. She was honest and always stayed true to herself and her beliefs. She leaves a great legacy of love and tolerance that is so important to hold onto in this crazy world.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mittle Belle Hinton, brothers, Morris, Tommy, and William Hinton, baby sister, Nelda Joyce Hinton; by her beloved husband, Jack Green, son Dan Max Green, and daughter, Jimmi Lynn Leaverton, grandson, Jack Evans Green II, and great grandchildren, Amber Marie Dinning, Joshua McLaughlin, and Christopher Green.
She is survived by her sister, Ruth Ella Routh, and her four remaining children, sons, William Jack Green of Kingsville, Texas and Joe Evans Green of San Antonio, Texas; and her daughters, Tommie Jean “Jeanie” Valle, of San Antonio, Texas, and Cynthia Ann “Cindy” Richards and husband Alan, of Houston, Texas.
She lived a long, wonderful life, which includes a legacy of 6 children, 12 grandchildren, a total of 19 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.
On her birthday a few years ago, one of her granddaughters asked her what she wanted. She answered that she wanted to put on a sexy dress and race around town. She is free now – free from suffering and free to put on that sexy new dress and race around heaven.
The last thing she heard before leaving this world was the voices of her children, Bill, Joe, Jeanie, and Cindy all singing Amazing Grace at her bedside.
