She was born January 1, 1917 to Walter Joe Bettinger and Hallie Fields in Waco, TX. She married Richard James Ackermann on June 12, 1937 in Waco, TX. They moved to San Antonio about 1944. After WWII, Richard and Mildred started their own plumbing business along with Richard's brother Leroy. Mildred kept the books for the business. Mildred and Richard devoted many years to the plumbing business and their other efforts in farming, ranching, and owning/operating a Laundromat. Mildred loved to quilt and made man appliqued quilts, most of which she gave away. Mildred was an active member to her church quilting group well into her 90's.
She will be remembered for her dedication to her family, her sharp mind, and her willingness to help others.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband of 50 years, Richard Ackermann; daughter, Carolyn Ackermann; and four siblings. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Carpenter of San Antonio, TX; sister, Opal Cunningham of Grand Prairie, TX; grandchildren, Dwayne (Sharon), Darrell, Donald Carpenter, all of San Antonio, TX; 6 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; 2 step-great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Laurel Heights Seventh-Day Adventist Quilting Ministry, 703 W. Ashby Pl., San Antonio, TX 78212, or a charity of your choice.
