He was born October 12, 1944, in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, to Irinero and Julia Perales. He was a graduate of Fox Tech High School and served in the U.S. Army. He moved to Indiana in 1969, started his career at Inland Steel and retired after 30 years of service. He was a devoted father and enjoyed countless hours of taking his daughters to their “Brownie” meetings, band practices, watching them perform at pom-poms, school plays, coaching their softball teams, taking them to all their various sporting practices, games and later umpiring many softball games. His daughter’s friends still refer to him lovingly as “Coach Mike”. He retired and moved back to Texas and enjoyed spending time with his family, and was known for his heartfelt belly laughs and all around good nature.
He is survived by his daughters, Michelle (Perales) Pilipauskas and her spouse Tim, Janice (Perales) Kass and her spouse Andrew, grandchildren, Mia and Ben Pilipauskas, Lillian and Sergio Kass, and his former wife Janie Aguilar. Siblings: Tony Perales, Robert Perales, Irene Estrada, Dolores Baxter, Guadalupe Reyes, Alicia Canales, countless nephews and nieces, and predeceased by his siblings Guillermo Perales and Julia Martinez.
Mike’s wish was to be cremated, his ashes will be brought to Illinois to be closer to his daughters. A small, immediate family service will be held at that time. In lieu of funeral services, and to honor Mike’s character, we ask that everyone think of him and say a little something to him out loud letting him know how much he is loved and will be missed.
