1939 - 2020
Mike Gonzales, 81, went to be with the Lord on 8/26/20. Born in San Antonio, he graduated from Fox Tech High School before entering the Navy. It was there that he met his wife Dolores “Dee”, a Navy nurse. After they married, they left the service and returned to San Antonio where they raised three sons.
Mike was a mechanical engineer for Martin Staley and Associates where he laid out air conditioning and plumbing lines for many buildings including the Tower of the Americas. Later, Mike worked in Civil Service at Brooks Air Force Base as Director, Heavy Equipment Repair. He remained for 25 years, retiring as a GS-11.
Mike pursued an unwavering passion for natural body building. He earned 37 first-place titles out of 42 competitions including his proudest accomplishment, Mr. Texas, all without steroids. In addition, he judged many competitions and also owned Mr. Texas Health Club where he trained over 300 clients, some of whom went on to win titles of their own.
Mike retired just before Dee’s passing and soon after, filled his time as a free-lance personal trainer. It was then that he met his current wife, Millie, who was a client.
Mike left an indelible impact on all who knew him. He was exceptionally witty and wise with an unbridled sense of humor and strong work ethic. Simply put, he was one in a million and will be greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by parents, Frank Gonzales and Antonia Correa; step mother, Elena Salazar; first wife Dolores Gonzales; brothers Augustine Gonzales and Frank Gonzales Jr.; and sisters Francis Porter and Mary Margaret Kolb.
