Melvah was born and raised on the ranch of her parents; Ervin E and Louise Classen Voigt on October 12, 1920. Over her long life she witnessed the Voigt Ranch’s transformation into Hollywood Park and the Stone Oak area of San Antonio. She graduated from Alamo Heights High School.
She and her previously deceased husband, Milton Uecker, also ranched land in the area when in 1955 she made a decision to enter the business world. Starting as an office secretary, accountant, and then administrative assistant. In 1969 she became certified as a nursing home administrator and assumed the role of the administrator of San Pedro Manor Convalescent Center in San Antonio. Following her “retirement” in 1971 her restless and entrepreneurial spirit urged her to embark on owning her own business—-a Hallmark gift and decor store known as Natural Selection. The store flourished until both she and the store retired in 1999 when Melvah was 79.
During her younger years her recreational passion was centered on both nine and ten pin bowling. She spent countless evenings in the bowling alley and advanced to the level of State Women’s singles champion.
Melvah spent her final 22 years living in Blanco and Spring Branch, Texas.
Melvah is survived by her son Dennis Wayne Uecker of Blanco, Milton Voigt Uecker and his wife Linda of Fort Mill, SC, and her three grandsons and their children, Joel T. Uecker and wife Caron of Gastonia, NC, great grandchildren, Audrey and Violet; Josh C. Uecker and wife Alexia of Matthews, NC, great grandchildren, Kate, Hope and Caleb; Jeremy E. Uecker and wife Elisabeth of Waco, TX, great grandchildren Annie, Sally, Virginia and Fritz.
The family is grateful for the consistent and loving care of the Heights of Bulverde staff over the past four years and most recently the compassionate care provided by Embrace Hospice.
