Melinda Flores Chavez passed away at the age of 67 in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on January 20, 1956 in San Antonio, Texas to Joe C. and Gumecinda Flores. Melinda is proceeded in death by her loving parents.
She is survived by her husband: Richard F. Chavez; her children Stephen and Matthew Chavez; her grandchildren: Aarón and Amarissa Chavez; and her sister: Patricia Flores. Melinda was a loving and caring wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and grandmother. Also surviving Melinda are her loving sisters-in-law, Margaret and her husband David, Grace, and Norma; brothers-in-law, Gregory and wife Mary, Louis and wife Maria Concepcion; father-in-law, Gregorio Chavez and a host of extended family.
She loved collecting sea shells from the beach and enjoyed growing her collection of lighthouses, which adorned her house in the form of paintings, pictures, statues, magnets, and jewelry. Melinda loved to stay active and would visit Zumba studios across San Antonio. Even during the pandemic, she made it a point to join her weekly Zumba class virtually. She loved to walk outdoors and would often visit the trails at O.P. Schnabel Park, the Grotto, and other parks around the city. Melinda served more than 40 years working at the UT Health Science Center. Later in life, she and her husband enjoyed traveling the country and world where they explored cities all across the United States and in Europe. Her favorite city to visit–New York City. Melinda will be missed by her family and friends.
Visitation will be at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, 6321 Bandera road, San Antonio, Texas 78238 on Thursday, September 14, 2023 from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. with a rosary 7:00 P.M. The funeral procession will depart Sunset Northwest Funeral Home at 10:30 A.M. for funeral mass on Friday, September 15, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe, Catholic Church - Helotes, Texas with interment to follow at San Fernando Cemetery #2.
