

Maynard H. Braden, Jr. died Friday, August 20, 2004 from lung cancer. He was born March 30, 1933. He was a native of San Antonio, Texas, graduating from Central Catholic High School and from St. Mary's University earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics. He also accomplished post graduate studies in business administration and law. He was a First Lieutenant in the Army, and a Reserve Commissioned Officer. After graduating from St. Mary's, he spent 15 years with Westinghouse in various sales and marketing management positions. He then started his own real estate development business in 1969, and was responsible for the planning, packaging, constructing and marketing of shopping centers, apartment communities, business complexes and buildings, as well as ventures in hotel revitalization and inner-city rehabilitation of landmark buildings not only in Texas but also in three other states.
In 1961 he married Carole Ann Blue and they had three children. He was a member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church and active in various leadership positions at St. Matthew's, serving for many years on the Parish Council, including service as a past Council President. He was also a past member of St. Mary's Advisory Board, St. Mary's Alumni Board, and was on the Boards of the Biscayne College Board of Regents and the Balconies Heights Planning Board. He was also a member of the North and South San Antonio Chambers of Commerce and the Balconies Heights Chamber of Commerce.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years Carole Ann Braden, children William M. Braden and his wife Deborah Braden, Elizabeth Braden, and Katherine Staton and her husband Terrance Staton; two grandchildren Katherine Eva Braden and William Joseph Braden; and sister-in-law, Darleen Blue Shaw. Pallbearers will be Keith Dulley, John Maynard Meismer, Robert Menconi, Campbell Shaw, George V. Shaw, III, and Mark Skeans.
