Mauro was born in San Antonio on August 30, 1950 to Mary and Mauro Silvas Jr. He attended St. Henry’s Grade School and graduated from La Salle High School in 1968, the last class before the school closed. He served in the U.S. Army for three years from August 1969 to March 1972.
He had a long and successful 37-year career with VIA Metropolitan Transit, starting in September 1976 when it was called San Antonio Transit System. He retired in August 2013 and obtained the Two-Million Mile Safety Award for accident-free driving, quite an accomplishment.
His favorite past time was golf which he played for over forty years with his special gang of former VIA drivers.
Mauro is preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Mauro Silvas Jr.; and his in-laws, Roger and Frances White. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Wendy, and his daughter, Allison. In addition, he leaves behind his brother, James Silvas and partner Michele Vervoort; his sister-in-law Andrea Willott and her husband Michael, and numerous relatives in the area.
A burial service will be held on Thursday, December 16, 2021 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery
at 10:30AM, Shelter #3.
Mauro was a kind and gentle soul and we will miss him dearly.
