Our beautiful mother and grandmother, Mary T Mendoza, 86 was welcomed into the loving arms of our Father on June 14, 2017 while surrounded by her family. Mom was born on February 1, 1931 in the Peanut Capital of the World, Floresville, TX. She joined her parents Joe J and Beatrice S Trevino; the love of her life, her husband Joe G Mendoza Sr (retired SAPD) and her beloved chihuahua, Baby.
She will be missed tremendously by her surviving family, son Dr Joe Mendoza Jr (Melinda), daughters Patty A Mendoza (Nancy Smith) and Anna Marie Gonzales (David); grandchildren Andrea Wile (Tim), Christina Piasta (Frank), Ryan Gonzales (Robert Hill), Matthew Mendoza, Alexis Gonzales and Ava Gonzales; great-grandchildren Henry and Caroline Wile; sister Rose Rubio (Paul); numerous family and friends. The family would like to express special thanks and gratitude to Blanca Lobo her caregiver and friend for the last ten years; and to Dr. Devulapally, Dr. Schnitzler and Dr. Arizmendi.
Mom loved everything to do with the outdoors from gardening to fishing to traveling around the world. She was also quite the dancer, spending hours on the dance floor with our father. She also enjoyed auditioning for roles as an extra in films and stood side by side in 1978 with Johnny Cash in the film Thaddeus Rose and Eddie. Her cooking was out of this world, duplication is near impossible. She had a green thumb and a knack for sewing. She was very proud of her huge lemon tree and could sew clothing, crafts, home decor; she was our jack of all trades. She was first and foremost a housewife and disciplinarian but also a CCD instructor, a Girl Scout troop leader, a substitute teacher at Holy Rosary School, an avid member of the San Antonio Police Wives Auxiliary, 1968 Precinct No. 25 Committeewoman and active in groundbreaking events at Holy Family Parish. Her jobs included retail sales in housewares at Dillards and at Foleys in women's petites which she enjoyed due to her passion for her home and stylistic flair for fashion. Mom was tenacious, outspoken, outgoing, green-eyed with a beautiful smile and talented in so many ways. Our family holidays will never be quite the same without the scent(s) of mom; menudo, brisket, potato salad, bunuelos, cake and coffee. Mom was an extraordinary woman whose love for her family could only be measured by the tears we shed as we kissed her goodbye.
A visitation will be held from 6:00-9:00 pm on Sunday June 25, 2017 at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home 6321 Bandera Rd., San Antonio, Tx 78238 with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm that same evening. A Mass of Resurrection will be held on Monday June 26, 2017 at 10:00 am at St. Dominic Catholic Church, celebrants Rev. Phillip D. Henning and Msgr. John Wagner. Interment to follow at San Fernando Cemetery No. 2.
