With profound sadness we announce the passing of Mary Theresa Martinez, Terry to her family and friends. She was welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven on January 27, 2021 at the age of 74. She was born in San Antonio, Texas on August 12, 1946.
Terry worked in Civil Service at Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas for over 30 years. She started as a Key Punch Operator and retired as a Production Controller. As a result of her long tenure at Kelly, she seemed to know half of San Antonio. Wherever she went, someone would stop to say hello to her. She was special to so many, not just her family. After a couple of years in retirement, Terry decided to start a second career at Texas A&M University, San Antonio. She was one of the founding members of the campus. She was in administration at the College of Education and Human Development, and took great pride in helping her students achieve their goal of becoming teachers.
Terry’s faith was very important to her and guided her throughout her life. She loved spending time with family and friends. She would often coordinate family gatherings. She was the “Cruise Director” of the family. She also had a close circle of friends whom she treasured.
Terry was the beloved mother of Denise Martinez (Richard Solis) and Richard Daniel Martinez (Gracie Martinez). She is also survived by her brothers Ralph Lopez (Chris Lopez), Jesse Charles Lopez (Anna Lopez), and sister Edie Zimmer Blake, as well as, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and her cherished cousins. She will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts.
She is preceded in death by her parents John Edward and Lucille Zimmer, her nephew J.R. Lopez, and beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.
As an expression of sympathy memorial, donations may be made in her name to the San Antonio Food Bank. A virtual funeral mass will be held in the near future at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Helotes, Texas. A mass and a Celebration of Life will be held later this year so her family and friends can celebrate this amazing woman in person. Please continue to check her memorial page for updates.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at the St. Luke’s Baptist Hospital for their care and compassion.
