Mary Grace Gonzalez

Maria Gracia {Mary}Gonzalez, 86 years old, passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 after a valiant battle with cancer. Mary was born in Paras, Nuevo Leon, Mexico on March 9, 1937 to Joaquin and Manuela Cardenas Perez.

Mary met and married the love of her life, Albaro Gonzalez. They had 3 children but unfortunately Albaro passed away on Oct. 3, 1997. Mary became the head of her family and continued her life journey being a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. Having worked in the cafeteria at South San High School, Mary gave it her all in learning the skills and talents in preparing foods for whom she called “all of my kids and staff.” She met and made many lifelong friends in this job and she was part of a trio of friends (Angelica Aranda, Alicia Villarreal and of course Mary) left from that time. She always loved reminiscing about the conferences, the trips and the good times at South San.

Family and friends will miss her enchiladas, rice and beans as well as her famous lasagna.

Mary loved family gatherings and no one would go hungry. She also loved playing “loteria” with everyone no matter where she went to visit, she enjoyed playing that game over and over. There was much joy and laughter with her little phrases, sayings and gestures if she was not winning! Mary was happiest when all children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were around. Family meant the world to her including the extended family of her sister, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her love did not stop with immediate family for she considered friends as part of her family too. Everyone was always welcomed at her home.

Mary was also the family “newscaster”. She would call sisters, brothers, cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, friends and then when she made her calls, she would give a report on each one. She wanted family to stay connected and she was the connection to all.

Mary is preceded in death by PARENTS: Joaquin and Manuela Perez; HUSBAND, Albaro Gonzalez; BROTHERS: Fidel Perez, Roque Perez, Lucio Perez, Francisco Perez I, Juan Perez, Juvenal Perez, Francisco Perez II, Joaquin Perez; SISTERS: Julia Ruiz, Guadalupe Gonzalez, Anita Vasquez, Aurora Rodriguez.

Left to cherish her memories are Mary’s CHILDREN: Alberto “Eddie” (Beatriz) Gonzalez, Sylvia(+Nick) Ozuna, Albaro (Chris)Gonzalez, Orlando (Lisa)Gonzalez. GRANDCHILDREN: Lynene (Eric) Hanson, Oscar Gonzalez, Alan (Leslie) Gonzalez; Alex Mann, Jackie (Daniel)Delgado; Zachary Gonzalez, Veronica Gonzalez; Alex Gonzalez, Brandon (Heather)Gonzalez; Jakob Gonzalez; GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN: Kaitlynn, Vincent, Emberly, Jaxson, Eli, Michael, Damian, Mathian, Haruka, Trey, Tiger and Lucas Nick. SISTER: Rosa Elia Ruiz from Paras, N.L, Mexico, SISTER In LAWS: Emma Perez from Houston, Texas and Margarita Perez from Sabinas, Hidalgo, Mexico. AS WELL as numerous nephews and nieces and extended family.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank her very dedicated caregivers: daughter in laws: Chris and Lisa Gonzalez as well as Beatrice, Eva, Kaitlynn, Sara and Emily. Appreciation to ADMT Caring Hospice and nurse: Tammy.

Services will be held on Monday, Feb. 19 at Funeraria del Angel Trevino Funeral Home located at 2525 Palo Alto Road. Visitation for family will be from 2-5 and 6-9 for friends with the holy rosary being held at 7:00 pm. Funeral will be on Tuesday, Feb. 20 with Mass at 12:00 pm at St. Joseph Catholic Church located at 535 New Laredo Hwy followed by burial at Fort Sam Houston cemetery at 1:45pm.
