Mary Lou Humber Dorrow of San Antonio, formerly of New Braunfels, passed away on November 10, 2020 at the age of 96. She was born December 28, 1923 in Albany, Texas to Simon Wesley Humber and Mary Elizabeth Lively Humber. she was the first of three daughters and one son.
On February 3, 1942, Mary Lou married Melvin Dorrow. They were blessed with 59 years of marriage at the time of Melvin’s passing in 2001 at the age of 80. She helped raise two sons, Melvin Jr and James Wesley.
Soon after marriage Melvin left for war with the 36th army division. Mary was waiting for his return with a new born son, Melvin Jr. When he was severely wounded he returned to the states into her care. They moved to Brady, Texas and opened a small electrical business. They later moved to San Antonio where Melvin continued his work and Mary became a bookkeeper. She had a Cub Scout troop and was active in her church, Baptist Temple.
They bought a ranch in Boerne, Texas. She raised sheep, Hereford cattle and all that goes with ranching. After retiring, they moved to New Braunfels. She was a homemaker, church and school volunteer. Planning and executing family activities was her delight.
Survivors include her children, Melvin (Janice) of New Braunfels, and Jim (Heidi) of San Antonio. Ten grandchildren: William, Kandy, Randy, Amy, JW and Jeff Dorrow. Randall, Doug, June and Dennis Johnston. Many great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren, one sister Dorothy (Bruce) Neatherlin, nieces Monica, Beth, Pat and nephews Donald Glenn, Larry and Marc.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband Melvin, siblings: sister Joanne (Roy) Wauson, and brother Glen Wesley Humber (Lois).
