Mary graduated from Ursuline Academy in 1958. She worked in Civil Service for the U.S. Government. Her last job was a Claims Examiner in the Directorate of Distribution at Kelly AFB. Due to losing some of her vision to glaucoma, she retired in 1991. She did not let the loss of vision keep her from working from home, earning money, and enjoying life. Mary loved chocolate and music! She loved her mariachis, singing to her favorite Vicente Fernandez songs, traveling and spending time with family. Her favorite getaways were to casinos in Las Vegas and Louisiana to play slot machines, sometimes having to call home to wire money so they could get back home! Mary also took many trips to Sabinas Hidalgo NL, Monterrey NL, Guadalajara, and Oaxaca, Mexico.
In this new emptiness we sit, her family, her friends, and those who never got the chance to love her. She will be remembered for her hard working spirit, her love for her family, and her contributions to the lives of everyone she touched.
The family would like to give special thanks to her caretakers, Dr. Neela Patel, UTHSC, Heart of Texas Hospice, and Imelda Escalera, who cared for her daily needs these last 2 years, 8 months as our mother’s Alzheimer's disease advanced. She was always loving and giving of so much of her time and patience.
