

He served in the United States Army Signal Corps attached to the 13th Air Force in World War II Pacific Theater, and was a proud veteran.
Mr. Shumate was a manager of H.E.B. Warehouse on East Commerce in 1951, then also manager of New Warehouse on Frio City Road in San Antonio. Growing with the company, he was manager, then director of the H.E.B. Distribution Center off Rittiman and I-35, and was retired from H.E.B. Grocery Company after 33 years.
Marvin is preceded in death by his parents, Bardin Minor Shumate and Lillie Shumate; first wife of 45 years, Dorothy Mae Shumate; and second wife, Margaret Bass Shumate to whom he was married for 23 years; his son, John C. Shumate; 3 granddaughters; and 1 grandson. He is survived by 2 daughters, Beverly Ann Wennermark of Boerne, Texas, and Janet K. Moore of Spring Branch, Texas; 8 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandson.
The family will receive friends on Friday, April 17, from 9:00-10:00 A.M. at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
