Marti is survived by her husband William J. Pegel; her son John E. Carrington, his wife Noha H Carrington and three grandsons John B Carrington, Harrison H Carrington and Claiborne H. Carrington; her daughter Danielle M. Maudlin and her husband Darrell R. Maudlin, her sister-in-law Sandra K. Cunningham and her husband William G. Cunningham; her niece Stacy A. Glasscock and her four children Haley K. Glasscock, Zoe A. Glasscock, Matthew D. Glasscock and Grace R. Glasscock; her nephew Michael E. O’Brien and his wife Tina M. O’Brien and their two children Tyler J. O’Brien and Madison K. O’Brien; and her cousin Charlie Bradshaw. She was preceded in death by her brother Charles Eugene O’Brien.
Marti was born on February 20, 1946 in San Antonio to George O’Brien and Florence Bradshaw. She graduated from Incarnate Word High School in 1964, The University of Texas at Austin in 1967 and continued to achieve a master’s degree and doctorate degree in education from The University of Northern Colorado. She was a passionate educator and worked for many years teaching emotionally disturbed teens in Denver before retiring and starting a second career as a travel agent at CTP and splitting her time between San Antonio and her “happy place”, San Diego. She traveled the world and treasured her friends, deeply touching the lives of everyone she met.
In light of the current pandemic, no services will be held at this time. In lieu of flowers, we ask to honor Marti’s wishes and please donate in her memory to MD Anderson Cancer Center (mdanderson.org) to further ovarian cancer research.
