After a protracted battle with multiple myeloma cancer, Marvin (“Mart”) A Jung, Jr. died on May 4, 2016 in San Antonio, TX at the age of 69. He leaves behind his wife, Connie Jung; his son, Philip Jung; and his son, Kyle Jung, along with daughter-in-law, Lauren, and granddaughter, Emerson.
Mart was born on March 16, 1947 in San Antonio, TX, to Marvin and Fernanda Jung. He graduated from The University of Texas at Austin in 1970 with a degree in Architecture. He met his wife Connie, a Speech Pathologist, on a blind date in December 1976 when she was a duchess in the Order of the Alamo Coronation. He proposed to her seven dates later; they were married in November 1977; and they lived together in their ‘first’ home ever since, where they raised their two sons.
Mart was a general contractor and owned a residential remodeling company. Though small, his clientele was full of repeat clients, who loved Mart because of his rare honesty as a GC, his insistence on doing the job right, and his uncanny ability to earn the trust of family pets.
As a devoted husband, Mart’s and Connie’s marriage was a true partnership, with equal roles in all issues from child rearing to household holiday decorations. As a father, he supported all of his sons’ goals, including accompanying them on dozens of Boy Scout camping trips. He instilled in them a DIY attitude -- first with Pinewood Derby cars and later with home improvement projects -- that they maintain today as grown men. He always made sure to tell his family how much he loved them and how proud he was, most recently allocating a new chunk of adoration on his granddaughter, Emerson.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2pm on Sunday, May 8, at Sunset Funeral Home, with a visitation beginning at 1pm. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mart’s life. The family would especially like to thank Dr. Sharon Wilks and the staff of Texas Oncology for their years of loving treatment and support; Dr. Clifford Alprin for his attentive treatment; and the staff of Northeast Baptist Hospital for their care on his many visits. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes and appreciates donations to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.
