Mark Nicholas Senkiw, 66, passed away in San Antonio, Texas on May 17, 2024 at the Methodist Hospital after a sudden cardiac event. He is survived by his siblings Joan Marie Slusky (Howard) and Carol Christine Bell. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Irene Elaine Senkiw and brother Paul Walter Senkiw. Surviving nieces and nephews include Jasmine Meroff (Ricky), Stacey Swickerath, Jonathon Bell, Ryan Slusky (Rana Allawnha), Jacob Slusky and Nathan Slusky.
Mark grew up in Michigan and was the oldest of the four siblings. He graduated from Sterling Heights High School in 1975 and Oakland University in 1980. He studied computer science and began working as a programmer. Mark lived most of his life in San Antonio, Texas and was employed by Black and Decker, AT&T, Bexar County, and Accenture.
Mark loved travel and adventure and was an avid athlete all of his life. He enjoyed running, biking, hiking, kayaking, and camping. For over 40 years, he enjoyed weekly runs with the San Antonio “Hash House Harriers” running club and was known only in that group as “BatGuano Man.” Over the years, this international, dynamic group of runners became a second family to him, as he traveled to places like New Orleans, Detroit, Boulder, Denver, San Francisco, Ireland, Indonesia, Costa Rica, Beliz, Mexico, Australia and New Zealand and many others.
Mark was smart, insightful, easy-going, and always knew just how to help everyone around him to go with the flow. His terrific sense of humor made him a welcome guest and he was often known to break out into a funny story or silly song just to pass the time or lighten the mood of anyone in his company. He made the world a better place to live in with his kind, gentle presence.
A private memorial service for family will be held in Michigan in August.
