Marjorie Lucile Hollingshead Reams Nelson, born October 1, 1922, peacefully went home on May 8, 2014 at the age of 91. Marjorie was born in Wilsonville, Nebraska to Frankie and Artie Hollingshead. She lived in Nebraska until March, 1942, when she married Gordon Reams and moved to San Antonio where Gordon was stationed at Fort Sam Houston. Marjorie and Gordon had one son, Gerry. She had a 28-year career with Civil Service at Fort Sam Houston, of which she was very proud. Following Gordon’s passing in 1977, Marjorie married Frank Nelson in 1982 and added a new member to her family, Linda, Frank’s daughter. Marjorie and Frank both shared a love of travel and were blessed to be able to have adventures together throughout the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii, as well as many trips to Europe. Following Frank’s passing in 2007, Marjorie continued to live life to its fullest every day with hobbies like reading, crossword puzzles, cross stitching, jigsaw puzzles and many different kinds of arts and crafts. But her true love was quilting. She shared her expertise with many of the ladies at Boldtville Presbyterian Church, where she was a member for 57 years. Once a week for several years, “her girls”, as she affectionately referred to the quilting group, would come to the house and quilt, talk and laugh. Each year, the completed quilt, that was the fruit of their labor, was auctioned as a fundraiser for the church. Marjorie loved Boldtville Presbyterian and the people there with all of her heart, and they loved her. In addition to Gordon and Frank, she is preceded in death by her parents, and her brother Harold Hollingshead.
She is survived by her son, Gerry and his wife Jackye, Everett, WA; daughter, Linda Kellner and husband Keith, San Antonio, TX; sister, Jean Wescoat and husband Ernie, Red Cloud, NE; brother, Raymond Keith “Pete” Hollingshead, Covina, CA; sister-in-law, Priscilla Hollingshead, Inavale, NE; 4 granddaughters, Barbara Brantley and husband Milam, Brentwood, TN; Adrienne Carr and husband Chris, San Antonio, TX; Alexis Percle and husband Chris, Austin, TX; Courtney Kellner, San Antonio, TX; grandson, Cary Reams and wife Laura, Allen, TX; 5 great-grandsons, William Reams, David and Matthew Brantley, Colin and Liam Carr; 3 great-granddaughters, Mary Grace and Margaret Reams, Claire Brantley; numerous nieces and nephews. Our family would like to express our thanks and love to Marjorie’s pastor and our friend, Suzy Royston, for her unending care and support for all of us during this time. Appreciation is also expressed to Optum Hospice and Chandler Estate Nursing Home for their compassionate care.
