Marian Cecile Baird

Marian Cecile Matheny Baird was born in Terre Haute, IN on January 25, 1916 to Samuel Earl & Mary Armstrong Matheny and entered eternal rest on Sunday, May 20, 2012 in San Antonio, TX, at the age of 96. She graduated from St. Gerard High School in San Antonio, TX. and later worked there as a P.E. teacher and a Librarian. Marian was an avid reader and loved to play bingo. Every Thursday she would lead the Rosary in her room at Heartland of San Antonio. Preceding her in death were her husband of 55 years, Andrew Hollis Baird; brothers, Charles R. Matheny, John “Bitz” Matheny, Earl Matheny and James Matheny; and her sister, Frances Ambrus. Surviving are her children, Mary Frances Nocker (Bob), William E. Baird, of San Antonio, James A. Baird (Sharon)of Lilliwaup, WA; sister, Louanne King of Canyon Lake; sisters-in-law, Winnie, Connie and Willie Matheny. “Big Mama” is survived by her loving grandchildren, Mary Lynn Hejjaj, Patrick Nocker (Rosie), Edward Nocker (Julie), James Lee Baird (Vanessa) of Australia, Tommy Baird; great-grandchildren, Morgan, Logan, Mackenzie, Addison, and Brandon Nocker, Connor, Reilly, Campbell and Shannon Baird; also, nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 31, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel, with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 1, 2012 at St. Gerard Catholic Church, 1617 Iowa St. 78203. Interment will follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. The family would like to thank the Nurses and CNA at Heartland of San Antonio, for the loving care shown to Marian.
