Maria Guadalupe Valdez, age 96, joined her Savior in Heaven on September 13, 2022. She was born December 22, 1925, in Eagle Pass, Texas to Juan Flores and Joaquina Aguilar. She married the love of her life, Felix L. Valdez, on May 31, 1947. She is survived by her children; Felix (Glenda) Valdez Jr. of Huntsville, Alabama, Denise (Kenn) Kantola of San Antonio, and Gerry (Jayne) Valdez of Helotes; 10 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Felix L. Valdez and daughter Mary Clay. "Lupe" worked in the Edgewood School District as a Teacher's Aide, and in a variety of roles including teaching severely and profoundly disabled little children at the Cardenas Learning Center. She also taught these children bilingual language skills along with ASL.
Lupe was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church in San Antonio where she worked alongside her husband in the Food Pantry, on the Benevolence committee, staffing a free clinic sponsored by the church and helping wherever and whenever asked. She was an avid seamstress, making clothes for her children and grandchildren. After retirement, her main focus became acting as a mentor and guidepost for her grandchildren whenever needed.
A visitation for Lupe will be held Thursday, September 22, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Crossroads Baptist Church, 8300 Tezel Rd, San Antonio, Texas 78254. A funeral service will begin at 4:00 PM. A committal service will occur the following morning at 9:00 AM at Shelter #1 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, Texas 78209.
If desired, in lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to Crossroads Baptist Church Benevolence Fund.
