Maria Felix Sifuentes, 72 of Austin, Texas, found peace on February 19, 2024 surrounded by her beloved children.
Maria was born in Lampazos, Nuevo Leon, Mexico on January 9, 1952 to Sara Pineda Castillo and Felix Ortiz. At the tender age of nine, Maria’s journey led to the United States, guided by her grandfather, settling in Austin, Texas. Her educational voyage began at Govalle Elementary, where she mastered the English language. Maria’s career journey began with Bruce Pies, where she met and eventually married the father of her children Lorenzo H. Sifuentes. A dedicated and hardworking soul, Maria extended her kindness to coworkers, family, and strangers alike.
In her moments of respite, Maria cherished time with family and friends. Though she enjoyed many things like dancing, cooking and crocheting, Maria’s favorite role was that as a grandparent. She treasured her time with her grandkids and great grandchildren. Maria was an active member of the Catholic Church, devoting time to the Guadalupana’s at St. Julia’s Catholic Church when she wasn’t attending mass with her family in San Antonio.
Maria was preceded in death by grandfather Anacleto Pineda, parents Sara Pineda Castillo, Felix Ortiz, brother Emilio Pineda, sister Carolina Mendez, husband Lorenzo H. Sifuentes, and her first grandchild Terry D. Gonzales Jr..
Maria is survived by her four children: Sara Sifuentes, Lorenzo Sifuentes IV, Elizabeth Sifuentes Dukette (husband Philip Dukette), and John Sifuentes (wife Christine Sifuentes), her brothers Francisco Ortiz, Jose Ortiz, Baldemar Ortiz, Jose Luis Tovar Garcia, Joseph Ramiro Pineda, and her sisters Esther Ortiz, and Esperanza Ortiz. Maria’s legacy lives on through her seventeen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
