Maria Hinojosa Hernandez, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, entered eternal rest to be with the Lord on April 3, 2013 at the age of 90. She was born in LaCoste, Texas on June 10, 1922 to Urbano and Hermila Hinojosa. She grew up in the depression era and as a child worked as a field-hand with her parents managing farmer’s crops moving from farm to farm. She could roll 80-100 tortillas a day for her family and was her mother’s biggest helper. As she was the oldest she took pride in caring for her 12 siblings until she met and married Carlos Hernandez at the age of 17. They had 7 children. After moving to San Antonio in the 60’s she began employment with St. Mary’s University as a housekeeper for the Law School department. She was employed there for 21 years earning “Employee of the Year” for 16 consecutive years. She took pride in everything she did and dressed up even if she was going to the doctor. She always wore high-heels. Her hobbies included reading and walking. She liked detective stories, romance novels and recently had taken to astronomy. She believed in being fit and walked miles daily until she was 86. She was independent with a feisty, strong-willed attitude and lived life to the fullest. She was a pioneer woman, beautiful inside and out who dedicated her life to her family and will be dearly missed. She was preceded in death by her son, Roberto Hernandez and 2 grandchildren, Jimmy “Jimbo” Gomez Jr. and Roland “Little Buddy” Hernandez Jr. She is survived by children: Elia Dalton and husband Michael, Blanca Gomez, Rosalinda Walker and husband Gregg, Yolanda Bliss and husband Don, Carlos Hernandez and wife Lynette, and Roland “Buddy” Hernandez and wife Rachel; 20 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren and other relatives. The family will receive friends at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at Funeraria Del Angel Roy Akers with a Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. A funeral procession will depart the funeral home at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 10, 2013 to celebrate her life at 11:00 a.m. with a Mass at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church.
