Maria Luisa Hernandez, known affectionately as "Momo" to family and friends, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on October 27,2023, at the age of 96. She was born to Luisita and Pomposo Escamilla on November 23, 1926 in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon Mexico. She married Ramon Ledezma Hernandez on May 22, 1949. After a few years of marriage, Ramon and Maria Luisa immigrated to the United States and began their life in Brownsville, Texas, later, moving to San Antonio where they raised their three children.
God blessed Momo with the ability to make everyone she met feel special and loved. She always had a warm welcome (usually accompanied by a hug and a kiss) for family, friends, and visitors. She showed love to her family by cooking Mexican gourmet dishes. She was known for making the best calabaza con pollo, chiles rellenos, menudo, and her famous ensalada de nopalitos.
Mom used her ability to communicate with people to establish a successful Avon career. She started selling Avon in the early 1960's in Brownsville, Texas, and continued after moving to San Antonio, Texas. She was a top sales person during her Avon career, which lasted until 2019. She won numerous awards, including membership in the Avon President's Club, due to her marketing and sales skills. Momo made many friends, enjoyed mentoring new Avon representatives, and attended and hosted Avon meetings and banquets. Some of her best memories included winning numerous trips to Mexico, Las Vegas, Florida, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico.
Mrs. Hernandez was preceded in death by her husband, Ramon Ledezma Hernandez. She is survived by her loving family, her children, Ramon Hernandez, Mayra Moore and husband Jarvis R. "Billy', Jorge Hernandez and wife Andrea Hernandez; grandchildren, Michael Jason Calvillo and wife Jennifer, Marlise Andrea Boyles and husband Will, Mario Alberto Hernandez, Angelica Maria Garcia and husband John, and Jorge Miguel Hernandez, great grandchildren Vicente Alejandro Fernandez, Ashilee Brooke Lopez, Marcus Anthony Carrasco, Jacob Rene Carrasco, Jacen Michael Calvillo, Davis Avery Calvillo, Javier Harrison Miguel Boyles, and Cristian Harrison Andres Boyles.
