Maria S. Hernandez

November 2, 1937 – January 14, 2023

Maria S. Hernandez was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 14, 2023, at the blessed age of 85. Maria was born in in Metlaltoyuca, Puebla, Mexico to Manuel Solis and Maria Cruz Solis.

Maria was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of 55 years Samuel S. Hernandez, son in law Darrell Johnson, four brothers and five sisters.

Maria is survived by her daughters, Lorraine Johnson, Nancy Valadez (Jose), grandchildren, Jonathan Valadez, Isaac Edwards, Elliana Valadez, Markeshia Edwards, and Maria Grace Valadez, sisters Maria Bassett, Flor Solis Cruz, numerous nieces, nephews and brothers and sisters in Christ.

Maria immigrated to the US in the early 1960’s, meeting her husband and raising her family here in San Antonio. Maria was known for being a wonderful baker and having beautiful plants and flowers. She worked for many years as a seamstress, and enjoyed spending time with her family, taking care of her grandchildren and working in her yard. She was a devout member of the Saunders Iglesia de Cristo for over 40 years and cherished the time spent serving our Lord. She will be eternally missed.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Martha Martian Del Campos who assisted in taking care of our mother this last year and more so during her final months. We are forever grateful for your kindness and compassion you showed our mom.

A visitation for Maria will be held on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, from 6 PM to 9PM at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, 6321 Bandera Road, San Antonio, TX 78238 with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. A funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at 9:30 AM at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home and immediately following will be a procession to Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery where Maria will be laid to rest.
