Maria A. Gonzales, loving wife, daughter, and mother passed away on 31 March 2013. Maria was born on 20 August 1942 in Tecolotito, New Mexico to Mr. & Mrs. Rumaldo and Feliciana Lucero. She had a total of 14 brothers and sisters. She was a lifelong house wife and raised 7 kids while living around the world supporting her career Army husband. They were married on 30 October 1960. They lived throughout the United States and numerous overseas assignments to include Ft Bragg, North Carolina, Okinawa, Germany, Fort Polk, Louisiana and Portales, New Mexico.
They resided in New Mexico for 8 years until SGM Celestino Gonzales retired from the Army. Maria was a devout wife and helped ensure that all their children graduated from high and most from Eastern New Mexico University. All four of her sons received their commissions as Army Officers. She was very proud of her husband and all her children’s accomplishments. She was a loving and caring grandmother and truly loved to be around all her grandkids. They moved to San Antonio, Texas in 2008 as their final retirement home.
She is survived by her brothers and sisters Rumoldo Lucero , Stella De Leon, Steve Lucero, Eddie Lucero, and Rose Ortiz, She is also survived by her 7 children: CPL Victor Gonzales and his wife Mary from El Paso, Texas; LTC (R) Nick Gonzales and his wife Regina from San Antonio, Texas; Theresa Gamez from Corpus Christi, Texas; Tina Almodova and her husband Ralph from Odessa, Texas; MAJ Daniel Gonzales and his wife Monica from Ft Riley, Kansas; Veronica Moreno and her husband David from San Antonio, Texas; MAJ Alex Gonzales and his wife Brandi from Ft Bliss, Texas. She is survived by her 17 grandchildren (Katrina Garcia, Michael Garcia, Gabby Gamez, Nicole Gonzales, Melissa Garcia, Amanda Gonzales, Nicholas Gamez, Gloria Almodova, Alyson Almodova, Julissa Gonzales, Anthony Gonzales, Bobby Gonzales, Isaiah Almodova, Erica Gonzales, Alexa Gonzales, Bella Gonzales, Adrian Gonzales and great grand children Audrina and Victoria Garcia).
The Rosary will be at will be at Sunset North Funeral Home at Stone Oak, 910 North Loop 1604, San Antonio, TX 78232, on Thursday, 4 April 2013.
Funeral service will be held at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, TX 78218 on 5 April 2013 at 1:30pm.
Interment will be at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery immediately following.
